JAZZ JUBILEE-THEMED MYSTERY RELEASED IN PAPERBACK

JOYCE KRIEG WILL BE BACK FOR THIS YEAR'S FESTIVAL

Murder Off Mike, the mystery novel that features numerous scenes at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, is out in paperback, just in time for this year's festival.

Author Joyce Krieg will be signing copies of Murder Off Mike during the Jubilee on the following schedule:

Thursday, May 27:

  • Doubleday Bookshop, Downtown Plaza, 12:00-1:00 p.m.

Friday, May 28:

  • Mardi Gras bead booth in Old Sacramento, 12:00-1:00 p.m. and during band breaks throughout the afternoon.

Saturday, May 29:

  • Freeway Gardens, Old Sacramento, 2:00-4:00 p.m. (Jubilee badge required)
  • Tower Records Superstore, Cal Expo, 5:00-7:00 p.m. (Jubilee badge required)

Sunday, May 30:

  • Stage Nine, Old Sacramento, 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Murder Off Mike, published in hardback in April 2004 by St. Martin's Minotaur, introduces Shauna J. Bogart, a smart and sassy radio talk show host/amateur sleuth based in Sacramento. The action climaxes with a page-turning chase scene through the streets of the Old Sacramento historic district during Jazz Jubilee.

The mass market paperback retails for $6.99 and during Jubilee weekend will be available at the Doubleday bookshop in Downtown Plaza, at Stage Nine (corner of Front and K streets in Old Sacramento) and at the Tower Records Superstore at Cal Expo.

Murder Off Mike has received numerous critical accolades, including starred reviews in Publishers Weekly and Booklist. Publishers Weekly says, "So vividly does the author describe the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee and the streets and heat of the city in May, one can hear the music, feel the crowds," while Booklist raves, "Krieg's debut reads like the work of a seasoned mystery writer--in many ways, in fact, it reads better than the work of many genre veterans." Roger Krum, executive director of the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, sums it up as "Incruckin' fedible!"

Joyce Krieg is a long-time Sacramento resident and broadcast veteran who currently lives in Pacific Grove (Monterey County). The sequel to Murder Off Mike, Slip Cue, is scheduled for a July 2004 release by St. Martin's Minotaur.
