Sacramento. Jubilee scenes that are featured in the book
and that would make excellent backgrounds for live or taped
shots include:
- Freeway
Gardens: Shauna J. escapes from a crooked former cop who
is chasing her by blending in with a parasol parade.
- Turntable
Junction: Shauna J. meets up with her new boyfriend backstage
and must once again make a quick escape when the bad guys
enter the tent.
- Balcony
at Second and J: Shauna J.'s radio station conducts a
remote broadcast from the balcony, which becomes the site
for the unmasking of the killer.
- I-5
pedestrian tunnel: Shauna J. makes several trips through
the tunnel in search of a nightclub from the 1950s that
was torn down to make way for the freeway.
- Firehouse
restaurant courtyard: Shauna J. attends a pre-Jubilee
party and meets up a candidate for governor whom she is
threatening to expose on her radio show.

| BACKGROUND: |
Murder
Off Mike is the winner of the St. Martin's Press "best
first traditional mystery" contest and was published in April
of 2003. It is set in a Sacramento radio station and features
talk show host Shauna J. Bogart as the amateur sleuth who
is called upon to solve the killing of a fellow shock talker.
The author, Joyce Krieg, is a former Sacramento resident who
based Murder Off Mike on her experiences working at
KFBK and attending the Jazz Jubilee as a long-time fan. |
