LOOKING FOR A DIFFERENT ANGLE FOR JAZZ JUBILEE COVERAGE?
INTERVIEW THE PERSON WHO WROTE THE BOOK ABOUT IT!

WHAT: Interview with the author of Murder Off Mike (St. Martin's Press, Spring 2003), which contains numerous scenes (including the climactic showdown with the villain) at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee.
WHERE:

Old Sacramento. Jubilee scenes that are featured in the book and that would make excellent backgrounds for live or taped shots include:

  • Turntable Junction: Shauna J. meets up with her new boyfriend backstage and must once again make a quick escape when the bad guys enter the tent.
  • Balcony at Second and J: Shauna J.'s radio station conducts a remote broadcast from the balcony, which becomes the site for the unmasking of the killer.
  • I-5 pedestrian tunnel: Shauna J. makes several trips through the tunnel in search of a nightclub from the 1950s that was torn down to make way for the freeway.
  • Firehouse restaurant courtyard: Shauna J. attends a pre-Jubilee party and meets up a candidate for governor whom she is threatening to expose on her radio show.
WHEN: Anytime during the Jazz Jubilee (May 23-26).
HOW: During the Jubilee, Joyce Krieg may be reached on her cell phone, 831/595-1228. Or leave a message at the Jazz Jubilee media trailer, 916-718-4431
BACKGROUND: Murder Off Mike is the winner of the St. Martin's Press "best first traditional mystery" contest and was published in April of 2003. It is set in a Sacramento radio station and features talk show host Shauna J. Bogart as the amateur sleuth who is called upon to solve the killing of a fellow shock talker. The author, Joyce Krieg, is a former Sacramento resident who based Murder Off Mike on her experiences working at KFBK and attending the Jazz Jubilee as a long-time fan.
